School Readiness (SR) for Families

School Readiness provides the foundation for not only education but for life-long success because they are taught the basics of self-care and self-management. It helps children younger than kindergarten age develop social and emotional skills that encourage them to make friends, express thoughts, and cope with frustration.

Child Care Resource and Referral services offer information on selecting a childcare provider and child care provider listings to all families who apply for the School Readiness program.

Am I eligible?

The School Readiness program is designed to assist families with low income. However, it also extends its benefits to those who receive temporary cash assistance and meet federal work requirements, families with at-risk children due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment, homeless parents, domestic violence victims, teenage parents, low-income migrant families or farm workers, or families with children who have disabilities or special health care needs.

To qualify for the program, parents or guardians should be working and/or pursuing education for at least 20 hours a week, OR be disabled as verified by a licensed physician.

  • The gross income of the family should not exceed 150 percent of the federal poverty level for their respective family size.
  • As part of the program, families are required to make a copayment for child care expenses, which is determined based on their income and family size.
